NASA has countless images available online for free download. We are particularly star struck (pun intended) with their Hubble Space Telescope shots of nebulae. A nebula is an immense photogenic cloud of cosmic gas that creates conditions leading to the formation of new stars. Many people are unaware that Hubble images are all taken in black and white. NASA technicians then use photo filters to colorize the images, but they have many much more important things to do than to obsess about details like photographers often do during what we call "post-processing." We, however, are willing to spend time to dodge and burn, and to improve clarity and contrast to provide more "pop" to images while remaining true to the NASA versions. Here are some of our favorite enhanced nebula images. Of course, like the originals, all these are in the public domain and available to all for free. Enjoy!
